Amber Crown Symphyllia LPS Brain Coral

This is a WYSIWYG specimen. You will receive the exact coral pictured โ€” a true one-of-a-kind piece.

Amber Crown Symphyllia is a large-polyp stony (LPS) coral characterised by its soft green base tones overlaid with warm amber and orange striping that radiates evenly across each lobe. The patterning follows the coralโ€™s natural ridges, creating a crown-like appearance that feels structured, balanced, and refined.

Symphyllia corals develop thick, fleshy tissue over a solid skeletal framework, forming the classic brain-like structure they are known for. Because of its consistent colour distribution and gentle contrast, this specimen integrates beautifully into mixed and LPS-focused reef aquariums without overpowering neighbouring corals.

Colour and Visual Character

This Symphyllia displays a muted green foundation with fine amber-orange bands tracing the growth contours of each lobe. Under blue and actinic lighting, the amber tones gain warmth while the green base deepens slightly, enhancing depth and definition in a controlled, understated way.

Once settled, the coral exhibits full daytime tissue expansion. This expansion increases its overall presence and allows the colour pattern to remain crisp and clearly defined, without any true movement.

Care Level and Placement

Amber Crown Symphyllia is a slow-growing, fleshy coral that thrives in stable reef systems. It prefers moderate lighting and low to moderate, indirect flow, which allows the tissue to expand fully without stress. Strong or direct flow should be avoided.

Placement on the sand bed or lower rockwork is recommended. Because Symphyllia can extend sweeper tentacles, adequate spacing from neighbouring corals is important. Minimal disturbance during the initial acclimation period supports long-term health and consistent expansion.

Feeding and Compatibility

Although this coral relies on symbiotic zooxanthellae, it benefits from occasional target feeding. Small meaty foods or fine frozen blends can support steady growth and colour retention. Controlled feeding also helps maintain balanced nutrient levels within the aquarium.

Why Choose an Amber Crown Symphyllia?

This coral offers a calm, elegant colour palette with strong structure and texture, making it ideal for reef keepers who value refinement over excess intensity. With proper placement and stable parameters, Amber Crown Symphyllia can thrive long term and remain a quietly striking centrepiece in a thoughtfully arranged reef display.

๐Ÿ”ง Our System Parameters

  • Alkalinity (KH): 8.5 dKH

  • Calcium: 430 ppm

  • Magnesium: 1350 ppm

These parameters reflect the conditions in which our corals are maintained prior to sale.

๐Ÿšš Coral Acclimation Guide

To help your coral settle in comfortably, float the sealed bag in your aquarium for 20โ€“30 minutes to allow temperature acclimatisation.

After this period, remove the coral from the bag and place it directly into the aquarium. Do not drip acclimatise, as prolonged exposure to shipping water can stress corals.

For the first 24โ€“48 hours, position the coral in a low light and low flow area. This allows it to adjust gradually to its new environment. After this period, you can slowly move the coral to its final position based on its lighting and flow requirements.
