Bloodstone Australomussa LPS Coral

This is a WYSIWYG specimen. You will receive the exact coral pictured โ€” a true one-of-a-kind piece.

Bloodstone Australomussa is a visually striking large-polyp stony (LPS) coral defined by its deep ruby-red coloration and smoky violet undertones. The tissue displays a molten, marbled texture that gives the coral a smouldering appearance, reminiscent of polished bloodstone under reef lighting.

Australomussa corals develop thick, fleshy tissue over a solid skeletal structure, producing bold, rounded lobes with strong visual weight. Because of its rich colour depth and uniform coverage, this specimen offers dramatic presence without relying on bright contrast or fluorescent striping.

Colour and Visual Character

This Australomussa displays saturated red tones across the primary tissue, with darker purple and blue shadows forming naturally along the ridges and valleys. Under blue and actinic lighting, the red deepens while the violet undertones become more pronounced, creating a layered, gemstone-like appearance.

When settled, the coral maintains full, even tissue expansion throughout the day. This expansion enhances its size and presence without any true movement.

Care Level and Placement

Bloodstone Australomussa thrives in stable reef systems with low to moderate lighting and gentle water flow. Strong or direct flow should be avoided, as it can irritate tissue and prevent full expansion.

Placement on the sand bed or lower rockwork is recommended. Because Australomussa can display semi-aggressive behaviour, adequate spacing from neighbouring corals is important at all times. Once positioned, minimal relocation helps support long-term health and consistent expansion.

Feeding and Compatibility

Although Australomussa corals contain symbiotic zooxanthellae, they benefit from occasional feeding. Small meaty foods such as mysis, finely chopped seafood, or reef blends can support growth and tissue health. Feeding once or twice per week is sufficient.

Australomussa corals integrate well into mixed reef systems when given space, but their semi-aggressive nature means they should not be placed in direct contact with other corals.

Why Choose a Bloodstone Australomussa?

This coral offers a deep, gemstone-like colour palette with strong texture and presence. Its rich reds and smoky undertones make it ideal for reef keepers seeking a dramatic yet refined LPS coral. With proper placement and stable conditions, Bloodstone Australomussa can thrive long term and remain a standout feature in any reef aquarium.

  • Alkalinity (KH): 8.5 dKH

  • Calcium: 430 ppm

  • Magnesium: 1350 ppm

These parameters reflect the conditions in which our corals are maintained prior to sale.

๐Ÿšš Coral Acclimation Guide

To help your coral settle in comfortably, float the sealed bag in your aquarium for 20โ€“30 minutes to allow temperature acclimatisation.

After this period, remove the coral from the bag and place it directly into the aquarium. Do not drip acclimatise, as prolonged exposure to shipping water can stress corals.

For the first 24โ€“48 hours, position the coral in a low light and low flow area. This allows it to adjust gradually to its new environment. After this period, you can slowly move the coral to its final position based on its lighting and flow requirements.
