Blue Green Symphyllia LPS Brain Coral
Blue Green Symphyllia is a large-polyp stony (LPS) coral admired for its rich blue coloration accented by vivid green highlights. Thick, fleshy tissue grows over a sculpted skeleton, creating the classic brain-like appearance Symphyllia corals are known for. Because of its colour contrast and size, this coral adds strong visual impact to mixed and LPS-focused reef aquariums.
As the coral settles, its tissue expands fully during the day. This expansion enhances its presence in the tank and allows colour patterns to display clearly under reef lighting.
Colour and Visual Detail
This Symphyllia shows deep blue base tones with bright green bands and patches across its ridged surface. Under blue or actinic lighting, the green highlights intensify, creating a striking contrast. Therefore, the coral maintains visual interest throughout the lighting cycle.
Healthy specimens exhibit full, even tissue expansion when conditions are stable. This gives the coral a soft, inflated appearance without actual movement.
Care Level and Placement
Blue Green Symphyllia has a moderate care level and suits reef keepers with stable water parameters. It prefers low to moderate flow, which allows tissue to expand safely. However, strong or direct flow can damage the flesh and should be avoided.
Moderate lighting supports colour development while preventing stress. Placement on the sand bed or lower rockwork is recommended. Because Symphyllia can extend sweeper tentacles, adequate spacing from neighbouring corals is important.
Feeding and Compatibility
Although Symphyllia relies on symbiotic zooxanthellae, it benefits from occasional target feeding. For example, small meaty foods or fine frozen blends can support growth and coloration. Additionally, careful feeding helps maintain balanced nutrients in the aquarium.
Why Choose a Blue Green Symphyllia?
This coral offers bold colour contrast, texture, and presence without extreme care demands. With proper placement and stable conditions, Blue Green Symphyllia can thrive long-term and become a standout feature in any reef aquarium.

๐ Coral Acclimation Guide
To help your coral settle in comfortably, float the sealed bag in your aquarium for 20โ30 minutes to allow temperature acclimatisation.
After this period, remove the coral from the bag and place it directly into the aquarium. Do not drip acclimatise, as prolonged exposure to shipping water can stress corals.
For the first 24โ48 hours, position the coral in a low light and low flow area. This allows it to adjust gradually to its new environment. After this period, you can slowly move the coral to its final position based on its lighting and flow requirements.
