Ruby Halo Blastomussa wellsi LPS Coral
Ruby Halo Blastomussa wellsi is a highly desirable large-polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its rich red coloration and vivid green oral centres. Each fleshy polyp forms a smooth, rounded shape with evenly spaced tentacles. As a result, the colony develops a dense and visually balanced appearance that works well in a wide range of reef aquariums.
Blastomussa wellsi is known for strong colour retention and dependable behaviour. Therefore, it suits both newer reef keepers and experienced hobbyists alike. Because of its compact growth form, it adds impact without overwhelming surrounding corals.
Colour and Visual Character
This Blastomussa wellsi displays saturated ruby-red tissue across each polyp. In addition, bright neon-green mouths create a strong focal point that stands out under blue and actinic lighting. Together, these colours form a halo-like contrast that remains clear even in lower-light areas of the tank.
When conditions remain stable, the polyps stay plump and evenly extended throughout the day. As a result, the coral maintains a consistent and attractive presence without excessive movement.
Care Level and Placement
Blastomussa wellsi thrives in stable reef systems with low to moderate lighting and gentle water flow. However, strong or direct flow can prevent full polyp expansion and should be avoided.
For best results, place this coral on the sand bed or lower rockwork. Once positioned, it benefits from minimal relocation. Additionally, because this species shows peaceful behaviour, it can sit relatively close to other non-aggressive corals.
Feeding and Compatibility
Although Blastomussa wellsi contains symbiotic zooxanthellae, it responds well to supplemental feeding. For example, fine meaty foods, powdered coral blends, or soft reef foods can support growth and colour intensity. Therefore, occasional target feeding once or twice per week is sufficient.
Why Choose a Ruby Halo Blastomussa wellsi?
This coral offers intense colour, a tidy growth form, and reliable long-term performance. Moreover, its combination of deep red tissue and fluorescent green centres makes it an excellent choice for reef keepers who want strong visual impact without demanding care requirements.

๐ Coral Acclimation Guide
To help your coral settle in comfortably, float the sealed bag in your aquarium for 20โ30 minutes to allow temperature acclimatisation.
After this period, remove the coral from the bag and place it directly into the aquarium. Do not drip acclimatise, as prolonged exposure to shipping water can stress corals.
For the first 24โ48 hours, position the coral in a low light and low flow area. This allows it to adjust gradually to its new environment. After this period, you can slowly move the coral to its final position based on its lighting and flow requirements.
