Copper Heath Symphyllia LPS Brain Coral

This is a WYSIWYG specimen. You will receive the exact coral pictured โ€” a true one-of-a-kind piece.

Copper Heath Symphyllia is a distinctive large-polyp stony (LPS) coral characterised by its earthy green base tones and warm copper-orange veining. The colour pattern follows the natural ridges and valleys of the coral, creating a subtle, heathland-inspired appearance that feels refined rather than overly bold.

Symphyllia corals develop thick, fleshy tissue over a solid skeletal framework, forming the classic brain-like structure for which they are well known. Because of its balanced and natural colour palette, this specimen integrates beautifully into mixed and LPS-focused reef aquariums without overpowering surrounding corals.

Colour and Visual Character

This Symphyllia displays muted green tissue across each lobe, accented by fine copper-orange lines that trace the coralโ€™s natural growth contours. Under blue and actinic lighting, the copper tones gain warmth while the green base deepens, enhancing contrast in a measured and understated way.

Once settled, the coral exhibits full daytime tissue expansion. This expansion increases its overall presence and allows the natural patterning to remain clearly defined, without any true movement.

Care Level and Placement

Copper Heath Symphyllia is a slow-growing, fleshy coral that thrives in stable reef systems. It prefers moderate lighting and low to moderate, indirect flow, which allows the tissue to expand fully without stress. Strong or direct flow should be avoided.

Placement on the sand bed or lower rockwork is recommended. Because Symphyllia can extend sweeper tentacles, adequate spacing from neighbouring corals is important. Minimal disturbance during the initial acclimation period helps support long-term health and consistent tissue expansion.

Feeding and Compatibility

Although this coral relies on symbiotic zooxanthellae, it benefits from occasional target feeding. Small meaty foods or fine frozen blends can support steady growth and colour retention. Controlled feeding also helps maintain balanced nutrient levels within the aquarium.

Why Choose a Copper Heath Symphyllia?

This coral offers a restrained, natural colour palette with strong texture and depth, making it well suited to reef keepers who value subtle detail over high-contrast displays. With proper placement and stable parameters, Copper Heath Symphyllia can thrive long term and remain a quietly impressive centrepiece in a considered reef aquarium.

๐Ÿ”ง Our System Parameters

  • Alkalinity (KH): 8.5 dKH

  • Calcium: 430 ppm

  • Magnesium: 1350 ppm

These parameters reflect the conditions in which our corals are maintained prior to sale.

๐Ÿšš Coral Acclimation Guide

To help your coral settle in comfortably, float the sealed bag in your aquarium for 20โ€“30 minutes to allow temperature acclimatisation.

After this period, remove the coral from the bag and place it directly into the aquarium. Do not drip acclimatise, as prolonged exposure to shipping water can stress corals.

For the first 24โ€“48 hours, position the coral in a low light and low flow area. This allows it to adjust gradually to its new environment. After this period, you can slowly move the coral to its final position based on its lighting and flow requirements.
