Hot Rod Symphyllia LPS Brain Coral

The Hot Rod Symphyllia is an exceptionally rare and visually striking large-polyp stony (LPS) coral that delivers bold colour across every fold of its structure. This high-end specimen features a deep red-orange base with fluorescent yellow ridges, creating dramatic contrast that intensifies under blue and actinic lighting. Each lobe appears thick and well defined, giving the coral a rich, textured appearance with unmistakable depth.

This is a WYSIWYG specimen. You will receive the exact coral pictured โ€” a true one-of-a-kind piece.

Symphyllia corals grow fleshy tissue over a sculpted skeletal framework, forming the classic brain-like structure they are known for. Because of its bold contrast and saturation, this coral immediately draws attention in mixed and LPS-focused reef aquariums.

Colour and Visual Detail

This Hot Rod Symphyllia displays intense orange tones accented by vivid yellow lines that trace the ridged surface. Under actinic lighting, the yellow pigmentation fluoresces strongly, enhancing overall colour separation. As a result, the coral maintains a dramatic appearance throughout the lighting cycle.

Once settled, the coral exhibits full daytime tissue expansion. This expansion enhances its presence and allows colour boundaries to appear crisp and clearly defined, without any true movement.

Care Level and Placement

Hot Rod Symphyllia is a slow-growing, fleshy coral that thrives in stable reef systems. It prefers moderate lighting and low to moderate, indirect flow, which allows the tissue to expand fully without stress. However, strong or direct flow can damage the flesh and should be avoided.

Placement on the sand bed or lower rockwork is recommended. Because Symphyllia can extend sweeper tentacles, adequate spacing from neighbouring corals is important. Minimal disturbance during the initial settling period helps ensure full expansion and long-term health.

Feeding and Compatibility

Although this coral relies on symbiotic zooxanthellae, it benefits from occasional target feeding. For example, small meaty foods or fine frozen blends can support growth and colour retention. Additionally, controlled feeding helps maintain balanced nutrients within the system.

Why Choose a Hot Rod Symphyllia?

This coral is not commonly seen in the hobby, and its intense pigmentation makes it a prized addition for serious LPS collectors. With proper placement and stable parameters, Hot Rod Symphyllia can thrive long term and remain a standout centrepiece in any reef aquarium.

๐Ÿ”ง Our System Parameters

  • Alkalinity (KH): 8.5 dKH

  • Calcium: 430 ppm

  • Magnesium: 1350 ppm

These parameters reflect the conditions in which our corals are maintained prior to sale.

๐Ÿšš Coral Acclimation Guide

To help your coral settle in comfortably, float the sealed bag in your aquarium for 20โ€“30 minutes to allow temperature acclimatisation.

After this period, remove the coral from the bag and place it directly into the aquarium. Do not drip acclimatise, as prolonged exposure to shipping water can stress corals.

For the first 24โ€“48 hours, position the coral in a low light and low flow area. This allows it to adjust gradually to its new environment. After this period, you can slowly move the coral to its final position based on its lighting and flow requirements.
