Golden Symphyllia LPS Brain Coral
Golden Symphyllia is a large-polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its intense golden colouration and distinctive brain-like form. Thick, fleshy tissue covers a sculpted skeleton, creating a bold and eye-catching appearance that suits mixed and LPS-focused reef aquariums.
Because of its size and texture, this coral adds depth and contrast to reef layouts. As a result, it often becomes a natural focal point once fully settled.
Colour and Visual Presence
This Golden Symphyllia displays strong yellow-gold tones with darker contrast lines running through its ridged structure. Under blue or actinic lighting, fluorescent highlights become more pronounced. Therefore, the coral maintains visual appeal throughout the lighting cycle.
Healthy specimens show full tissue expansion during the day. This expansion allows the coral to appear larger than its skeletal base, giving it a soft, inflated appearance without actual movement.
Care Level and Placement
Golden Symphyllia has a moderate care level, making it suitable for reef keepers with stable systems. It prefers low to moderate water flow, which allows tissue to expand safely. However, strong or direct flow can cause tissue damage and should be avoided.
Moderate lighting supports colour development without stressing the coral. For best results, place this coral on the sand bed or lower rockwork. Because Symphyllia can extend sweeper tentacles, adequate spacing from neighbouring corals is important.
Feeding and Compatibility
Although this coral relies on symbiotic zooxanthellae, it benefits from occasional feeding. For example, small meaty foods or fine frozen blends can support growth and coloration. Additionally, controlled feeding helps maintain nutrient balance within the system.
Why Choose a Golden Symphyllia?
Golden Symphyllia offers bold colour, texture, and presence without excessive care demands. With proper placement and stable water conditions, it can thrive long-term and remain a standout feature in any reef aquarium.

๐ Coral Acclimation Guide
To help your coral settle in comfortably, float the sealed bag in your aquarium for 20โ30 minutes to allow temperature acclimatisation.
After this period, remove the coral from the bag and place it directly into the aquarium. Do not drip acclimatise, as prolonged exposure to shipping water can stress corals.
For the first 24โ48 hours, position the coral in a low light and low flow area. This allows it to adjust gradually to its new environment. After this period, you can slowly move the coral to its final position based on its lighting and flow requirements.
